Exploring industrial digital transformation with Yiyang Textile

ATOMIX was recently invited to attend the 2023 China Digital Economy Industry Conference. The smart high-bay warehouse project built for Yiyang Textile Group was named one of the first batch of "open call for solutions" (jiebang guashuai) contracted cooperation projects in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Ren Zhufeng, Vice Governor of Jiangxi Province; Jiang Wending, Mayor of Jiujiang; Mr. Ouyang Zhongcan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and other guests attended the conference, together with representatives of leading digital economy enterprises from Jiangxi and across the country. They discussed the necessity and urgency of integrating the digital economy with the real economy, and leading digital economy enterprises received public recognition.

Located in De'an County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, Yiyang Textile Group is an integrated textile-chain enterprise that brings together four major textile segments — spinning, weaving, dyeing and printing, and garment manufacturing — and operates business branches in Jiujiang (Jiangxi), Foshan (Guangdong), Huzhou (Zhejiang), Fujian and elsewhere. As demand for flexible, customized production in the textile and apparel industry surges, traditional production operations and warehousing and logistics methods can no longer meet the company's long-term development requirements. When Yiyang Textile began building its new Jiujiang production base, it set the overall goal of building a "5G smart factory." To this end, Yiyang Textile entered into a strategic partnership with ATOMIX to jointly explore building a "5G smart factory" for the textile industry and to set a benchmark for smart high-bay warehousing in the fabric roll sector.

The smart high-bay warehouse is designed with a height of 30 m and more than 50,000 storage locations. Four double-deep stacker cranes automate storage and retrieval across 16 rows of racks in 4 aisles (a single stacker crane handles the automated storage and retrieval of 16 rolls of fabric, each roll about 2 m long, across 4 rows of racks), with a designed daily throughput of more than 5,000 fabric rolls. After finished fabric rolls come off the line, they cross multiple plant buildings and are put away fully automatically by a conveyor line of nearly 300 m; inside the warehouse they are turned automatically and consolidated into pallets, then handed over to the stacker cranes via RGV for efficient inbound operations. The solution is an innovative addition to high-bay storage schemes in the textile industry, enabling efficient storage and picking of high-density, pallet-free fabric rolls.

Once completed, the warehouse will become China's first 5G smart factory covering the entire textile process. The project is expected to greatly improve warehousing efficiency, reduce operating costs and create significant economic value:

(1) Storage location utilization increases by more than 3 times, and inbound and outbound operating efficiency improves by 50%+.

(2) The warehouse area is essentially unmanned, saving nearly RMB 1 million in labor costs every year.

(3) With this smart warehousing system in use, the shipping error rate drops to zero.

(4) The ERP system connects efficiently with the WMS, enabling full-process automation and visibility in warehousing, strictly enforcing inventory management policies and saving on the stocktake process.

(5) By calculation, with business running at full capacity, Yiyang Textile will recoup the investment cost of the smart high-bay warehouse within 3 years.

Liu Zhuhui, Chairman of Yiyang Textile Group, said that the choice of ATOMIX as a partner was mainly because "we value your company's artificial intelligence technology background, technological innovation capability, and the team's overall strength and professional quality."

An ATOMIX executive said that ATOMIX is very glad to join hands with Yiyang Textile to build this smart high-bay warehouse, which has a strong industry demonstration effect. Today, customers face more, faster and more complex changes, and logistics and warehousing systems need to respond to these changes more promptly. Building on leading artificial intelligence technology, an innovative product system and extensive experience in industry deployments, ATOMIX looks forward to supporting more and more customers in the digital and intelligent upgrade of their warehousing, and to helping customers improve quality, cut costs and raise efficiency.
